Tomé, the hostel owner, is fulfilling his dream: producing local craft beer in a stunning brewery overlooking Funchal. Levadia (le·va·di·a): the rough sea crashing against the rocks or, now, the new craft brewery on the island of Madeira. These beers are made by a group of people who like to drink beer 🍺, but not only that—they are people who love beer and have been enjoying it for many years.

The best place to dive not only into the sea but also into the culture of the ocean city that is Funchal? Arsenal Beach. In what is effectively a ruin and living memory of the old city, fishermen, iconic local figures, and a growing wave of nomads come together to make the yellow-walled beach even more eclectic and colorful.

Looking for a little adventure? We recommend taking the cable car up to the mystical parish of Monte. Usually shrouded in fog, it is a place of legends and stories. Our suggestion is to take a leisurely stroll through the gardens and lose yourself among the historic mansions, pretending you are the protagonist of a romance novel. When you get tired of all the romanticism, make a mandatory stop at Land Food & Coffee, whether for thesuperb viewof the city or for the brunch menu and specialty coffee. How to get back to Funchal? RENT A BIKE
A great way to explore Funchal and get some exercise is to rent a bike and take advantage of the bike paths that are everywhere in the western part of the city. Our favorite route starts somewhere in the historic Reid's area, goes around the newer part of the city, and ends in the charming fishing village of Câmara de Lobos. It's about 13 kilometers alongside the sea, which must end with a poncha in the place where it was invented. Then you'll need the strength to make the return trip.
